A trip to the stunning Bahubali Hill Viewpoint at Badi Lake is an essential inclusion on any Udaipur itinerary. Originally built to help locals after a devastating famine in the 17th Century, the lake is now one of the most beautiful spots in this part of Rajasthan. The beautiful scenery surrounding the lake makes it a lovely place to visit, especially if you climb up the wonderful Bahubali Hill Viewpoint. It’s a peaceful escape from the chaotic streets of Udaipur, and despite being located 12 kilometres outside of the city, it’s well worth going to the effort of visiting. This guide covers everything you need to know about visiting Badi Lake and the Bahubali Hill Viewpoint in Udaipur!

How to reach Badi Lake from Udaipur
Badi Lake is located around 12 kilometres outside of Udaipur city centre, so walking there isn’t really a viable option. Instead, you’ll need to take a tuk-tuk or a taxi, but thankfully both of these are very cheap in India!
A tuk-tuk from Udaipur to Badi Lake should cost around 500 rupees return, including waiting time, whereas a taxi will cost around 700 rupees return. They can drop you off near the start of the walk to Bahubali Hill at Badi Lake.
Tuk-tuks and taxis are easy to find in Udaipur, as there almost always seems to be a driver offering you a ride wherever you go.
If you can’t find a driver to agree to a good price then we recommend using the apps Uber or OlaCabs. In our experience you will almost always find a better price using the apps, but some drivers on the street may be willing to negotiate a fair price too.
Best time to visit Badi Lake
We were lucky enough to visit Badi Lake just as Udaipur’s monsoon season was ending, which meant we were treated to lush green scenery. Between the months of July and October the surrounding landscape is normally covered in greenery thanks to the rain in the area.
The monsoon season in Udaipur runs from around July to September. If you do visit at this time be prepared for the odd downpour and take a raincoat. Thankfully, in most cases it won’t rain for too long before brightening up again!
When we visited in September 2019 it was quite overcast, but it didn’t actually rain – so don’t let a few clouds put you off visiting! It’s a beautiful place to visit, so in our opinion it’s worth braving the rain for anyway if it’s not too heavy.
At other times of the year the scenery and landscape surrounding Badi Lake is more of a yellow colour, but it’s still a lovely spot. By visiting in other months you’re more likely to be met with blue skies, which can make for some lovely photos of the lake.
Visit Bahubali Hill – the best viewpoint of Badi Lake
Bahubali Hill is the best viewpoint of Badi Lake, providing 360 degree views of the incredible scenery. Most drivers in the area will know where it is, as it’s popular with both locals and tourists.
When you reach the car park it’s a short 10-15 minute hike uphill to the top. The Badi Lake trek at Bahubali Hill isn’t too steep or strenuous, and it’s well worth it for wonderful views of the lake.
From on top of Bahubali hill you’re able to appreciate the scenic location of the lake, surrounded by beautiful hills as far as the eye can see. In our opinion it’s one of the best places to visit in Udaipur!
Despite being an incredibly picturesque spot, it doesn’t actually get too busy. When we visited we were the only foreign tourists there, and there were probably only around 20 locals. It’s not often you can get breathtaking views like this without being surrounded by crowds of tourists!
If you want to make it a special trip then we recommend visiting Bahubali Hill and Badi Lake at sunset. Seeing the sky light up as you enjoy the spectacular scenery is bound to be an unforgettable moment!
Although most tuk-tuk and taxi drivers will know exactly where Bahubali Hill at Badi Lake is, some might not. Fortunately you can find the exact location on google maps, which should help your driver get there.
