Where to stay in Esperance, Western Australia

Lucky Bay Campground

Undoubtedly one of the most popular places to stay in Esperance is the scenic Lucky Bay Campground. Situated amongst the beauty of Cape Le Grand National Park, the campground is directly next to the famous Lucky Bay beach.

Seeing the resident kangaroos at Lucky Bay is one of the best things to do in Esperance, and staying at the nearby campground gives you the best opportunity to see these friendly marsupials on the beach.

The Lucky Bay campground has 56 unpowered sites, suitable for campervans, motorhomes, or tents. There are a range of basic facilities at the campground including toilets, gas barbecues, picnic tables, and showers – although there is no guarantee of hot water!

Due to the brilliant location, the Lucky Bay campground books up very quickly – so you have to plan ahead if you want to camp there. Booking opens 180 days in advance, so make sure to book well before your visit if you want to wake up to views of the kangaroos at Lucky Bay!

Prices for the Lucky Bay campground are $20 AUD per adult in addition to the national park entrance fee of $17 AUD per vehicle. It’s one of the cheapest accommodation options in the area, and also means you get to stay at one of the best beaches in Esperance!

Le Grand Beach Campground

If the Lucky Bay Campground is fully booked, or if you simply would prefer a quieter alternative, the Le Grand Campground is another wonderful option for camping in Esperance. Nestled within the Cape Le Grand National Park, this campground offers the opportunity to stay amongst its beautiful nature.

The Le Grand Campground is quieter and more intimate, with just 14 unpowered sites available. Due to the limited space, booking is essential – especially if you’re planning to visit during peak periods.

Located directly next to the far-stretching Le Grand Beach, the campground allows you to wake up to the sound of the sea. Unfortunately kangaroos aren’t normally seen in this area of the national park, so make sure to secure a spot at the Lucky Bay campground if you’re hoping to see kangaroos on the beach!

That being said, Le Grand Campground is still a lovely spot to stay if you want to camp by the beach and be surrounded by nature. Prices for the Le Grand campground are $20 AUD per adult, on top of the national park entrance fee of $17 AUD per vehicle.
