Our favourite lake in Milton Keynes is the quaint and peaceful Lodge Lake. Located in Great Holm, it’s a perfect place for a walk thanks to the convenient trail which offers picturesque views of the lake. Despite being one of the smaller lakes in Milton Keynes, Lodge Lake is home to a surprising amount of wildlife, including otters, snakes, foxes, kingfishers and more! As it’s our favourite lake in the area, it’s no surprise we put it at the top of our list of best lakes to visit in Milton Keynes alongside Caldecotte Lake, Willen Lake and more. How to get to Lodge Lake, Milton Keynes

If you live in Great Holm, Two Mile Ash or Loughton, then Lodge Lake is conveniently located within walking distance. It’s also possible to walk there from Crownhill, Shenley Church End and Central Milton Keynes if you’re up for a longer walk.

The easiest way to get to Lodge Lake if you’re coming from elsewhere in Milton Keynes is to drive and make use of the free car park.

Things to do in Lodge Lake

The main reason to visit Lodge Lake is to walk around the lake and get some fresh air. Doing so allows you to enjoy some pleasant views, and if you’re lucky see some interesting wildlife. The distance around Lodge Lake is just under a mile, with the circular trail around the lake taking around 20-30 minutes on foot.

It’s a popular place to exercise, with cyclists and runners regularly making use of this nice outdoor space. There’s even a trim trail at various points around the lake, with balance beams, pull up bars and more!

If you want a longer walk then we recommend combining a trip to Lodge Lake with a walk through North Loughton Valley Park, which will lead you towards one of Milton Keynes’ most famous landmarks – the Concrete Cows!

Alternatively, you can walk through Loughton to the Tear Drop Lakes – which are found in South Loughton Valley Park. Walking around both sets of lakes and back should take around 1½-2 hours if you’re going at an average pace.

The main thing to do other than the above is to go bird-spotting or wildlife watching at the lake, which we cover more below!

Wildlife of Lodge Lake

If you’re interested in wildlife then Lodge Lake is one of the best lakes to visit in Milton Keynes. In particular it’s one of the best lakes in Milton Keynes for birdlife.

Birds you have a chance of seeing here include herons, cormorants, kingfishers, egrets, reed warblers, red kites, woodpeckers and a variety of waterfowl such as swans, mallards, Canada Geese, moorhens, coots and more!

Some of the more rare wildlife that can be found at Lodge Lake include otters, grass snakes and foxes. In our experience they’re quite hard to spot, but with a bit of luck you never know!
