The quaint village of Miravet is one definitely worth visiting when in Catalonia. Miravet Castle offers some incredible views over one of the largest rivers in Spain, the Ebro River. The lovely views from the castle are the main reason that we consider Miravet to be one of the most beautiful spots we saw during our month in Catalonia. Located less than an hour drive from the nearby towns of L’Ametlla de Mar and L’Ampolla, it’s an easy spot to visit on a day trip. How to get to Miravet Castle
Getting to Miravet Castle (Castell de Miravet) is relatively easy with a car. The drive takes around 45 minutes from L’Ampolla and an hour from L’Ametlla de Mar. Both of these journey times can be shortened by around 15 minutes if you take the Cami de la Barca, which is a small boat that transports the cars across the Ebro River.

If you are thinking about visiting Miravet from Barcelona then driving is your only option. It’s around a 2 hour drive which does make it possible to make this into a day trip. Coming from Barcelona to this part of Catalonia we would also recommend visiting other places such as the Ebro Delta and Tortosa.
Visiting Miravet Castle
Miravet is a quaint traditional Catalonian village and its main attraction is the castle. Free parking is available on side roads in the village, and once you’ve found somewhere to park it’s around a 10-15 minute walk uphill to the castle. As you walk up you can enjoy some nice views whilst passing some the town’s traditional architecture.
As of 2024 the entrance fee to visit Miravet Castle is 5 Euros. The castle itself is not overly impressive to be honest, but there are some points of historical interest to see.
Miravet Castle is known for being one of the best examples of World of Templar constructions. In the mid-12th Century the Knights Templar converted the remains of an Islamic fortress into the Castle Convent you see today. Renovation work is still ongoing and may affect which parts of the Castle you are able to visit.
Although the historical side of this castle may not be of much interest to you, the views over the Ebro River will not disappoint. From the top of Miravet Castle you can see the river weave around the Catalonian landscape with majestic mountains in the background.
Tips for visiting Miravet Castle
Day trip – A trip to Miravet Castle won’t take up much of your day so it’s worth visiting other places around this area. If you enjoy these views of the Ebro River then we recommend the Foradada del Montsia hike which provides the best view of the Delta.
Payment – To get into Miravet Castle you can pay cash or card.
Other things to do in Mirvaet – Other than visiting Miravet Castle there isn’t a lot else to see when you are here to be honest. There are some lovely walks you can do such as the Camino del Ebro which is part of the Camino de Santiago.
