Jembong waterfall is a lovely, man-made waterfall in North Bali. Although it may not be impressive as the colossal Sekumpul waterfall, it is still beautiful in its own right. We consider it one of the more secret waterfalls in Bali, as many locals are unaware of its existence and few foreigners choose to visit. Surrounded by cocoa plantations, the lack of visitors makes it a wonderfully peaceful spot to enjoy. Although it was slightly different to what we expected, Jembong is still worth including on a day trip of waterfalls in the north of Bali. This Jembong waterfall guide has everything you need to know to visit!
Jembong waterfall information
Jembong waterfall entrance fee 2024– 50,000 Rupiah (IDR) includes access to pools.
Jembong waterfall height – 10-15 metres
Jembong waterfall opening times – 6am to 5pm
How to get to Jembong waterfall
Jembong waterfall is around a 45-60 minute drive from Lovina beach. Located in Ambengan village, the falls are relatively close to Aling Aling waterfall and Gitgit waterfall.
The road to the waterfall is in pretty good condition so you should be fine on a scooter if you’d prefer not to pay for a driver. For reference we paid a driver 550,000 Rupiah for a full day tour of the waterfalls in North Bali. Scooters generally cost around 60,000 Rupiah for a day in Bali.
The walk to Jembong waterfall
Unlike most of the other waterfalls in Bali, the walk to Jembong waterfall is both short and uphill. The waterfall sits around 200 metres from the car park, with a path and steps leading up to it. Fortunately it’s not a steep walk, which makes it a pleasant place to visit at the end of the day to save your legs a long walk! Just follow the stream up past some smaller falls until you reach Jembong at the top.
In contrast, at both Sekumpul waterfall and Banyumala twin waterfall the walk to the falls is steep and downhill for the majority of it.
Best time to visit Jembong waterfall
As the road is in pretty good condition and the path to the falls is safe, Jembong waterfall is great to visit any time of year. If you visit during the rainy season or shortly after then the falls will be more impressive.
Tips for visiting Jembong waterfall
Secret waterfall – Jembong waterfall isn’t a very popular attraction with tourists. At the entrance, foreign visitors must write their name in a visitor’s book. When we visited in May 2018, the last foreigner in the book had been at Jembong one week before.
More popular with locals – Although it was far from busy, there were a few local kids at the waterfall when we visited. It seems currently that Jembong is more known to the locals than the tourists!
Combine as a day trip – Much like Gitgit waterfall, we don’t think it’s worth the effort to visit Jembong on its own. We recommend taking a day trip where you visit a number of waterfalls, as there are plenty of them to see in North Bali!
